What is CONNECT?

CONNECT is a newly funded, institution wide, wellbeing project, aiming to reduce loneliness and isolation amongst students. There is strong evidence suggesting that students are becoming increasingly isolated, which if tackled early on, could reduce the risk of further psychological or social issues.

Our vision is that all students will feel, and will be, connected.

CONNECT aims to build supportive institutional communities by working with both staff & students to lay the foundations for lifelong positive and healthy behaviours.

We will be training & equipping Connectors, with the skills to connect with and support students who are at risk of social isolation, experiencing loneliness or need help with developing social integration skills.

Who do you work with?

The CONNECT Project is funded by HEFCW (Higher Education Funding Council for Wales).

The project is a partnership between: Swansea University, Swansea University Student's Union, University of Wales Trinity St David, Trinity St David Student's Union, Gower College, Neath Port Talbot College, Coleg Sir Gar, Coleg Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire College.

What is peer support?

Peer support is when people with shared or common experiences support each other (or one supports the other). A shared experience could be studying the same course or enjoying the same sport. You may both identify as LGBTQ+ or share the same cultural background. Or you could both be experiencing/have experienced homesickness or have the same diagnosis of a physical or mental health problem.

Peer support has been successful in improving wellbeing for many people. It can give people a chance to share their feelings with someone who understands, help you to feel more hopeful about the future and feel less alone.

How you can get involved?

Both staff and students from Swansea University & UWTSD can become Connectors to support students feeling lonely or isolated.
